Overview of traditional Indian wedding ceremonies
Let’s explore together the various ceremonies and rituals that will fill our entire week. From the reception to the wedding, each ceremony reflects the importance of balancing spiritual, cosmic, and familial elements before embarking on a new journey.
Pre-Wedding
25th feb at 7pm
We will host a pre-wedding reception in Ahmedabad before the wedding, with a larger circle of guests. Traditionally, this type of event takes place after the wedding, but for logistical reasons, we felt it was more appropriate to schedule it beforehand.
The reception will take place by the Sabarmati River, which flows through the city, dividing it into two and providing a setting that is both picturesque and symbolic.
Mehendi
28th feb at 6pm
Next comes the Mehendi ceremony, which precedes the Indian wedding and is a ritual where henna or a red dye called alta is applied to the bride’s hands and feet.
It is a festive moment filled with dance and music, symbolizing beauty, joy, and blessings for the upcoming union.
For the occasion, 6 to 8 Mehendi artists will be present to apply henna designs to the hands of all guests who wish to participate.
Sangeet & Garba
28th feb at 7pm
As part of a Gujarati wedding, Garba is a traditional dance ceremony that embodies energy, vibrancy, and joy. This lively dance involves rhythmic clapping, footwork, and circular movements, performed together by the families and friends of the bride and groom.
Full of laughter, excitement, and celebration, Garba not only symbolizes the joy of the upcoming union but also represents the eternal cycle of life.
It’s the perfect opportunity for everyone to showcase their choreography skills and Bollywood-inspired moves, immersing yourselves in the vibrant world of Indian music and dance while celebrating our wedding with your best moves on the dance floor.
Ganesh grah shanti puja, Mandap muhurat

In India, Ganesh Puja, Grah Shanti, and Mandap Muhurat are significant pre-wedding rituals in Hindu weddings, especially in Gujarati traditions, to seek Ganesha’s blessings ensures success, peace, and prosperity in the married life of the couple.
The Grah shanti puja, is performed to pacify any unfavorable planetary alignments in the bride’s and groom’s horoscopes, ensuring a harmonious and prosperous married life.
The Mandap muhurat puja is the ceremonial blessing of the wedding mandap (the sacred canopy under which the marriage rituals are performed).
It also marks the official commencement of the wedding rituals. It invokes blessings from deities and the family’s ancestors for a smooth and successful wedding.
Haldi/Pithi
1st March at 1pm
The Pithi or Haldi ceremony is one of the most beloved and vibrant pre-wedding rituals in Indian culture. It is an ancient Vedic ritual performed before a wedding, dating back over 4,000 years.
During this celebration, paste made of haldi (turmeric), sandalwood, and other natural ingredients is applied to the bride and groom by their loved ones. This ritual symbolizes purification, blessings, and prosperity while preparing the couple for their new life together.
Inspired by the festive spirit of Holi, this ceremony often turns into an explosion of colors, where family and friends sprinkle flowers, water and colors on the couple, creating a lively and unforgettable atmosphere.
Hindu Wedding
2nd March at 10:00 am
The wedding ceremony will take place on Sunday morning and continue until early afternoon, followed by cherished rituals and playful games between the bride’s and groom’s families.
At the heart of this celebration, amidst the chanting of Vedic mantras, the couple will unite during the Pheras at precisely 12:39 pm. This sacred ritual involves the couple taking four vows while circling the holy fire (Agni), which symbolizes purity and light.
Each round represents a meaningful promise, embodying core values such as love, fidelity, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
This ritual is the most solemn and significant moment of a Hindu wedding, marking the eternal union of two souls.
To allow you to fully enjoy this special day, we have arranged an additional night’s stay at the venue on 2nd March.
The program for the rest of the day following the ceremony is still being finalized, but we will keep you informed.
